Rita Koehler (1930-2014)
We miss you...


Rita Jean Koehler (nee McClure), a long-time resident of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, died peacefully Saturday, March 8 at St. Alexius Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born July 11, 1930 in Chicago, Rita grew up in Glencoe and Rogers Park. She attended Gale Elementary School and Sullivan High School, class of June, 1948. She married Edward E. Koehler on June 10, 1950. Rita was a member of the Rogers Park Historical Society and Sullivan High School Alumni Association. She sang alto in the Harper College Festival Chorus for 9 years. Rita was a familiar, well-loved student supervisor at Hoffman Estates High School for 25 years, who treasured many relationships with students and staff over the years. Rita was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears and any team playing the White Sox. In her youth, she enjoyed baton-twirling, softball, Frisbee, and bowling. Cherished friends include the late Jackie Moore; the late Jack and Connie Gallo; Jack and Pat Doyle and the late Jane; Sandy, Norma, Doris, Carol, Dottie, Jennifer, Ginny, Maria, Vernie, Donna, and Joanne. Rita is survived by her children, Jan Wilson, Connie (Dave) Bolenbaugh, Marty Koehler, Edward (Leslie) Koehler and Brian (Jan) Koehler; grandchildren Errin, Briana (Brandon) Mitchell, Lauren, Hannah, Daniel; and great-grandchildren Brody and Bryce; second cousin Bill Davis; sister-in-law Marlene McClure and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward; mother, Margaret McClure; brother, George; aunt and uncle, Gladys and Roy Davis; and granddaughter Megan. Rita was a kind, loving daughter, sister, best friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be tremendously missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate care Rita received over the years from Dr. Denis O'Connell and most recently from the extraordinary nursing staff at SAMC. In accordance with Rita's wishes, no services are planned. A private memorial luncheon will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: H.E.L.P. (Hoffman Estates Loyal Parents) or the Alexian Brothers Hospice. Arrangements were made by Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Schaumburg, 847-882-5580.
