We miss you...

Evelyn Virginia Cleghorn,88, nee Baker of Marengo and formerly of Elgin, Hoffman Estates, Chicago and Rushville, IL. dear wife of the late Lewis; cherished mother of Neal (Karen), Bradley (Rebecca) and the late Steven; loving grandmother of Michael, Joshua, Caleb (Ashleigh), Rachel, Andrew, Haley (Elijah) Andrews and Jenna; proud sister of the late Lyle (late Virginia), late Vera (late Philip) Raming, late Harold, late Herman (late Shirley), late Irene Green, late Ruth, late Martha (late Harold) Woodruff and the late Wayne; beloved aunt of many and caring daughter of the late Earl and late Edith Baker, nee Settles.
Evelyn was born in 1935 in Rushville, Illinois to Earl and Edith (Settles) Baker. After graduating from Rushville High School in 1953, Evelyn moved to Chicago where she met and married her husband Lewis Cleghorn. They were married in 1957 at Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Oak Park, IL. They remained married for over 65 years until Lewis’ passing last year. In 1965 Evelyn and Lewis moved their growing family to the suburb of Hoffman Estates where they raised their three sons. The Cleghorns were founding members of Evangel Assembly of God in Schaumburg and later Hanover Park, IL. Evelyn served there faithfully for over fifty years as Sunday School teacher, pianist, food pantry volunteer, and small group leader. Evelyn worked in the library of Hoffman Estates High School which was very fitting with her love of books and reading. She loved art and nature and enjoyed painting florals and landscapes in her free time. Evelyn enjoyed genealogy research and there was no cemetery obscure and remote enough to keep her from exploring it with Lewis looking for long lost family members. The real joy in Evelyn’s life was her family. She was a wonderful grandmother and enjoyed spending as much time with her grandchildren as possible. She always made sure there were plenty of activities to do at Grandma’s house. She particularly enjoyed her annual back-to-school shopping trips with her granddaughters.
